Optical Chip for 640 GB/S Internet Access

University of Sydney scientists Neil Baker, Snjezana Tomljenovic-Hanic, Ben Eggleton and Jamie Vahn developed a photonic chip that may speed up internet 100 times. The new chip is a piece of scratched glass with photonic integrated circuit. These glass photonic chips will be very cheap to produce because they are made of plain glass. This device is capable to operate at data rate of nearly 640 GB/S.

Scientists says the network using this new technology will be 60 times faster than current Telstra networks.
